Recent protests in Nepal, calling for the restoration of the monarchy, turned violent, resulting in at least two deaths and injuries among protesters and police. The unrest occurred in the capital, Kathmandu, where royalist groups clashed with supporters of the republican government. Amidst calls for King Gyanendra's reinstatement, opposition figures asserted that the idea of returning to monarchy is unrealistic. The government imposed a curfew to manage the situation, reflecting the deep political divisions within the country and dissatisfaction with current leadership.
"It is impossible for the monarchy to come back. It is ridiculous to even think that something that is already dead and cremated could come back to life," said Ram Kumar Shrestha, a Maoist supporter.
"We need the country to return to monarchy and the king to come back, because the political parties and system have failed in the country," said Rajendra Bahadur Khati, one of the participants at the pro-monarchy rally.
