Three dead and two missing as storms batter south of France
Briefly

Violent storms have wreaked havoc in southern France, particularly in the Var department, leading to the deaths of three people and two others missing. The storms, characterized by heavy rain and hail, triggered flash flooding, infrastructure damage, and train service disruptions. Mayor Gil Bernardi likened the situation in Lavandou to a 'war zone,' with widespread power outages and blocked roads. Around 50 campers have been stranded but are unharmed. Météo France predicts the storms will continue north but will lose intensity moving forward.
At a press conference at the start of the afternoon Gil Bernardi, mayor of the town of Lavandou, described the area as 'like a war zone' due to the severe damage and flooding.
The local authority reported three fatalities, including a couple whose car was swept away and a driver in Vidauban, with two more individuals still unaccounted for.
