A police incident in Dugny, near Paris, resulted in a man's death after he was shot in the chest by officers who first deployed an electroshock weapon. The event transpired around 7am, and emergency services were unable to save the man. The police watchdog, IGPN, is investigating as per protocol for fatalities involving law enforcement. In 2023, interactions with French police have reportedly led to 36 deaths, raising concerns about use of force protocols.
One of the officers used an 'electroshock weapon' without effect, police told AFP. Another officer then 'used their weapon', wounding the man in the chest, and he died despite efforts by emergency services.
The attack happened at around 7am at a bus stop in the town of Dugny in the département of Seine-Saint-Denis, close to Le Bourget airport to the north of Paris.
In 2023, 36 people died in the course of interactions with French police, according to IGPN figures.
The French police watchdog the IGPN has been notified, as is standard practice when a person dies at the hands of police.
