Temperatures in France rise again as forecasts predict 'historic' heatwave
Briefly

Following a deadly storm, France is facing its 51st heatwave since 1947, predicted to be potentially historic. About 90% of the country will experience extremely high temperatures, with particular warnings for the Mediterranean coast. Various départements have already been placed under orange weather alerts, with temperatures set to reach up to 39°C. Weather forecasts indicate a spread of heat towards the north and central areas. Experts are linking these temperature extremes to human-induced climate change, raising concerns over health and wildfire risks across the affected regions.
Days after deadly storms broke France's first heatwave of the summer - and the 50th since 1947 - forecasters are predicting the 51st, which starts this weekend, may be 'potentially historic'.
Orange weather alerts are already in place for the départements of Pyrénées-Orientale, Hérault, Gard and Vaucluse along the Mediterranean coast, with temperatures expected to reach 38C in places.
Météo-France warned in its latest bulletin, adding that orange weather alerts were likely to be extended to additional départements across the weekend and into next week.
Surface sea temperatures from the Mediterranean were an "aggravating factor" that could make nights "more stifling" along the coast.
