The Late Show's Colbert criticized President Trump's response to a deadly plane crash that left 67 families grieving. Colbert expressed outrage over Trump's comments blaming DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts and Democrats without any substantiated evidence. When pressed during a press briefing for proof of this linkage, Trump stated that he relied on 'common sense' for his reasoning. This exchange highlights the contentious political climate and the unsettling tendency of public figures to exploit tragedies for political gain.
This morning, as 67 families were waiting in unapproachable grief desperate to find out what happened to their loved ones, the president of the United States took that moment of their tragedy, the tragedy for these people who I'm confident are not concerned with politics right now, to, without any evidence whatsoever, blame DEI and Democrats for the deadly plane crash.
I'm trying to figure out how you can come to the conclusion right now that diversity had something to do with this crash?
Because I have common sense, OK.
