In a dramatic escalation of cryptocurrency-related crime, French police conducted a successful raid in Essonne to rescue a man kidnapped to extort his wealthy son, a crypto millionaire. The victim, whose identity remains private, was abducted from Paris's 14th arrondissement by armed men. Prosecutors revealed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom between 5 million and 7 million euros. The victim's wife informed authorities of previous threats to their family. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau praised the police operation that prevented potential further harm to the victim.
The victim appears to be the father of a man who made his fortune in cryptocurrencies, with the crime involving a ransom demand.
There were fears of other mutilations if police had not raided the property.
Un immense bravo aux enquêteurs qui ont fait un travail exceptionnel pour libérer cet homme et pour interpeller ses ravisseurs.
The kidnapping followed a January 21 abduction of a French crypto boss and his partner.
