Italy's rail operator FS under investigation for 'hindering' French competitor
Briefly

Italy's competition authority is probing state-owned Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) for allegedly obstructing SNCF Voyages' entry into the Italian high-speed rail market. The authority suspects both FS and its subsidiary Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) of engaging in anti-competitive practices, impacting SNCF's access to crucial railway infrastructure. SNCF Voyages currently operates limited international services but plans to expand into the domestic market with ambitions for a 15-percent market share by 2030, utilizing new high-speed trains. Inspections have been conducted at various rail companies as part of the investigation into these claims.
Access to the national railway infrastructure and, as a consequence, entry into the high-speed passenger transport market by new player SNCF Voyages Italia S.r.l. appears to have been slowed down, and in some cases hindered.
RFI is suspected of having implemented an "exclusionary strategy" regarding the "allocation of infrastructure capacity" to SNCF Voyages Italia.
