David Gaudu undergoes hand surgery following Tirreno-Adriatico crash
Briefly

David Gaudu's participation in Tirreno-Adriatico was cut short due to a crash resulting in a fracture at the base of his first metacarpal. This latest incident marks the third crash he has experienced in just 15 days. The Groupama-FDJ team has promised updates on his recovery. Gaudu aimed for a strong performance at the Giro d'Italia, but this injury raises concerns about his preparation. Earlier this year, he had shown promise with a stage win in Oman but faced setbacks from multiple crashes and injuries.
"Some riders braked hard in front of him, and he was hit from behind," said directeur sportif Thierry Bricaud. "He's been having a really bad period for two weeks."
Earlier this year, he told L'Équipe that his goal was to secure a top-five finish—or even a spot on the podium... after that, he intended to tackle the Tour de France where he placed fourth in 2022 and ninth in 2023.
