'Cezanne at home': show retraces artist's roots in southern France
Briefly

The Granet Museum in Aix-en-Provence, France, is showcasing an exhibition titled "Cezanne at home," featuring the works of renowned painter Paul Cezanne. This exhibition highlights his relationship with the sun-drenched landscapes that inspired many of his still lifes and rural scenes. Despite being celebrated posthumously, Cezanne faced years of rejection from critics and his city. This exhibit, part of a broader initiative leading to 2025's declaration as "Cezanne's Year," displays over 135 works depicting Cezanne's evolution, from dark palettes to impressionism, celebrating his artistic legacy.
"As long as I live, no Cezanne will enter the museum," then-conservator of the Granet Museum Henri Pontier promised after Cezanne died in 1906.
"The century-long rift between Cezanne and his native city came to an end in 2006 when the Granet Museum held its first exhibition of the artist's work."
