'Totally upsetting': After over 50 years, a classic Bay Area diner is closing
""As we close the doors to Bobbi's we're filled with a mix of sadness and gratitude,""
""This place has been more than just a restaurant - it's been a hub of memories, laughter and love.""
""It's going to be tough, mostly because he didn't give us any heads up,""
""All of our regulars are very upset.""
Bobbi's Coffee Shop & Cafe in Cupertino will close on New Year's Eve after operating for more than fifty years. Employees learned only last week that they would lose their jobs, raising concerns about finding work during the slow January–February period. A sign on the door expressed sadness and gratitude and described the diner as a hub of memories, laughter and love. The location has a long history: Bobbi Thorne opened the shop in 1970, the property has been in the landlady's family since the 1950s, and ownership changed several times, most recently to Jay Wong and Topper Associates, whose business license expired on Dec. 8.
