The chain originated in Germany and expanded in the United States to over 2,500 stores across 40 states as of July 2025. Florida leads with 269 stores, followed by Illinois (215) and Ohio (172). Growth in Florida accelerated after a 2023 purchase of Winn-Dixie and Harvey Supermarkets, with plans to convert 220 acquired stores by 2027 and to open 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028.
