Research indicates that there is no safe amount of processed foods that can be consumed without risk. A survey published in Nature Medicine reviewed over 60 studies, linking consumption of cured meats, sugary drinks, and trans fatty acids to increased risks of serious health conditions, including type 2 diabetes and colon cancer. Eating just one hot dog a day raises the risk of type 2 diabetes by 11 percent and colon cancer by 7 percent. Despite these health warnings, hot dogs remain a popular choice, especially during summer holidays.
The survey established an iron-clad link between the consumption of processed foods, specifically cured meat, sugary drinks, and trans fatty acids, and chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and colon cancer.
Even eating one hot dog a day leads to an 11 percent greater risk of type 2 diabetes and a seven percent increased risk of colon cancer, compared to non-glizzy guzzlers.
