Briefly

A fire occurred at the Doagh Famine Village in Ballyliffin, prompting multiple fire appliances to respond. The attraction announced its closure on its website, offering refunds for pre-booked tickets. Local leaders expressed their heartbreak over the incident, with Cathaoirleach Jack Murray describing it as 'absolutely devastating' and noting the village's significance to the community. Donegal TD Padraig MacLochlainn echoed these sentiments, highlighting the hard work of the village's team. The fire has raised concerns about the cultural and economic impact on the area.
A customer notice on the tourist attraction's website reads: "Due to circumstances outside of our control, Doagh Famine Village will be closed until further notice. If you have booked tickets to visit us please contact us for a full refund."
Jack Murray, Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal District said the news of the fire was "absolutely devastating." "Inishowen has lost a wee bit of our soul if we lose the Famine Village," he said.
Donegal TD Padraig MacLochlainn said this is "just devastating news" from the Isle of Doagh. "Everyone who knows how hard Pat, Majella and all the team at the Isle of Doagh Famine Village have worked to build their beautiful visitor centre will be absolutely heart broken for them tonight."
