"When we closed temporarily, the full intention was to reopen in the spring. At the time, it felt like the responsible pause. At the same time, I was trying to divide myself between two restaurants, flying two planes while fixing them midair, and that wasn't fair to the businesses, the teams, or to myself."
"I love Red Hook - it's such a great, strong community. But it's very hard to get to, unless you have a really big name like Red Hook Tavern, your draw is limited."
"There is this whole stigma around restaurants or businesses... that it's not cool, or sexy to talk about your struggles. And every restaurant is dealing and fighting their own battles in one way or another."
Pitt's, a Southern restaurant in Red Hook that was recognized as one of the best new restaurants of 2025, has permanently closed. Owner Jeremy Salamon announced the closure on Instagram after the restaurant had been on winter hiatus since the beginning of the year. Salamon initially intended to reopen in spring but decided against it due to slow fall and winter seasons combined with the challenge of dividing his attention between Pitt's and his other restaurant, Agi's Counter in Crown Heights. The remote Red Hook location also contributed to limited customer draw. Salamon acknowledged the difficulty of operating restaurants and the stigma around discussing business struggles in the industry.
