Phew's Pies Announces Sudden Closure Months After Opening

"Foster started Phew's Pies in 2020 and gained viral success after rapper Killer Mike tweeted about his pizza. Foster also recently joined an Eater and Punch Pre-Shift panel and spoke on what it takes to create a viral food menu. The handmade pies include pizzas topped with lemon pepper wet wings, oxtails, and ricotta. His signature pizzas, the Lemon Pepper Wet and Hot Lemon Pepper Wet, are made using a butter sauce, chopped chicken, and mozzarella, with wings dotting the center."

""I'm the head coach, so in the end it's my fault. Of course, there are outside forces I couldn't control, but I didn't set myself or my business up enough to succeed," says Foster in a statement to Eater. "I'm still accepting inquiries for private events, pop-ups, and parties. As for another location, I don't have any plans right now.""

Phew's Pies will close its first storefront at the Sweet Auburn Municipal Market at the end of the month. The concept began as a 2020 pizza pop-up and achieved viral attention after rapper Killer Mike tweeted about the lemon pepper wet pizza, leading to a May opening. The menu features handmade pies with toppings like lemon pepper wet wings, oxtails, ricotta, and signature Lemon Pepper Wet and Hot Lemon Pepper Wet pies built with butter sauce, chopped chicken, mozzarella and wings. Foster accepted responsibility for the closure, cited outside forces, and will return to private events and pop-ups.
