Carl Bolling, the chef-owner of Dimond Kitchen, a soul food restaurant in Oakland, died on May 30 due to a motorcycle accident. He was 47 years old. While there were initial fears of a hit-and-run, police attributed fault to both drivers involved. Bolling underwent emergency surgery but passed away shortly after. His family is working to continue his legacy by raising money through GoFundMe to keep Dimond Kitchen operational and hopes to expand with a food truck or larger restaurant. Kelaija remembers her father as a passionate chef and family-oriented man.
Kelaija says she and Bolling's girlfriend now hope they'll be able to help carry on the spirit of hospitality that he embodied.
Kelaija says, "I feel like [my father] would want us to continue it because that's what his passion was - to expand the business even further."
