NYC's original Paulie Gee's to close, rebrand as 'tavern' - and some fans are furious
""While the name will change, the ownership remains the same team behind your favorite local watering holes and will feature a cozy new look and feel," management wrote in a Friday announcement on Instagram."
""Basically, what it's going to be is a bar," she said."
""We're moving into the direction of what we already know and do - which is run bars.""
""There will be a lot of booth seating towards the front, which allows for people to come, bring their kids, bring their friends ... it'll be open to all ages," the co-owner said."
New owners who operate several popular borough bars took over the original Paulie Gee's at 60 Greenpoint Ave. in 2024 from Paul Giannone. The location will close on January 4 for renovations and is expected to reopen in March after a complete transformation into a tavern under a new name that will not include the original namesake. The space will continue to serve Paulie Gee's pizzas while adding a 50-foot bar, jukebox, pool table and plentiful booth seating aimed at being open to all ages. The renovation is described as the final step in an ongoing overhaul and has sparked heated reactions online.
