""LA's so casual," Sonenshein says. "This is still a casual spot in a lot of ways - you can wear jeans and come in for lunch and whatever - but I think we're treating service really like a craft. We have felt how special it feels as the diner. And I think we started to see this as an opportunity for ourselves.""
""We just started to get really excited about product and serving on real plates and the beauty and special aspect of a real sit-down full-service restaurant," Sonenshein says."
""Some of it is about, for me, the concept of seafood can feel really inaccessible, and I think it can feel really stuffy and only a special occasion," Sonenshein says."
Anna Sonenshein and Niki Vahle launched Little Fish from an Echo Park window and pop-ups after pandemic layoffs, building a following for a fried fish sandwich. Little Fish opened an Echo Park location in December 2023 with menu items including the fried fish sandwich, grilled steak sandwiches, cottage cheese pancakes, and fish congee. The partners then signed a lease in Melrose Hill and opened a full-service, sunlit restaurant focused on West Coast-style seafood. The new restaurant serves lunch and dinner, aims to make seafood more accessible, and emphasizes attentive, craft-driven service in a casual setting.
