Franz W. Faeh, a legendary Swiss chef, will retire at the end of the 2026 summer season after nearly 50 years in culinary excellence. Born in Saanenland, he completed his apprenticeship at Gstaad Palace from 1978 to 1981, then gained international experience in Hong Kong, Singapore, and as private chef to the Thai royal family before returning to lead Gstaad Palace's culinary team a decade ago. His philosophy emphasizes honest, authentic cuisine prioritizing flavor over trends, rejecting fusion cooking in favor of traditional, high-quality dishes. Faeh has received numerous prestigious awards including Hotel Chef of the Year from BILANZ in 2021, a 16-point GaultMillau Schweiz rating in 2022, and the Mérite Culinaire Suisse from the Swiss Federal Council in March 2025. Beyond his culinary achievements, he mentored young chefs and earned recognition for his expertise and guest relations.
