'Day Without Immigrants' Protests Close Restaurants Across the Country
Briefly

On Monday, many businesses and restaurants across the U.S. closed in solidarity with the Day Without Immigrants movement, aimed at addressing the growing anti-immigrant sentiment fueled by President Trump's policies. Many restaurant owners, often immigrants or offspring of immigrants, have felt particularly threatened. The protest emphasized the important role immigrants play in the workforce, especially in the restaurant industry, where they represent 22 percent. Some businesses offered paid time off for staff to participate, while others chose to stay open and support immigrant advocacy groups with donations.
Monday marks the second iteration of a Day Without Immigrants. The first, held in 2017, came as Trump called for building a border wall.
We stand alongside our community in taking a stance against the aggressive immigration policies laid out by the Trump administration.
