On the first stage of the Rás, the author describes their experience at breakfast in the Boyne Valley Hotel. They notice increased attention from other riders at the dining room, which prompts curiosity about their own actions and choices. Eventually, it dawns on the author that the scrutiny may stem from fellow competitors having read about their dietary habits in the previous day's diary entry. This realization highlights the interconnectedness of the cycling community, where athletes observe and discuss each other’s choices, especially in a competitive environment.
I could feel more eyes on me than usual from riders on some of the other teams that were staying there.
It felt like I was definitely part of a few conversations going on but I couldn't figure out why.
It was only later that I realised some of them probably read yesterday's pre-Rás diary about my food intake and were watching to see what I was eating.
