Cracker Barrel cracks, backs off restaurant remodel campaign | Fortune
""We heard clearly that the modern remodel design does not reflect what you love about Cracker Barrel,""
""Of course, we will continue to invest in our restaurants to make sure that they are in good shape and meet your expectations.""
""Historically, Cracker Barrel has made limited changes to our design aesthetic, and we've probably relied a little too much on what was perceived to be the timeless nature of our concept,""
""The goal, simply put, was to freshen things in such a way as to be noticeable and attractive but still feel like Cracker Barrel,""
Cracker Barrel paused planned remodels after strong customer criticism and earlier backlash over a proposed simplified logo. Four of 660 restaurants underwent test remodels that added more comfortable seating, brighter lighting, lighter paint and a simplified antique assortment while retaining signature elements such as fireplaces. The company pledged to keep investing in restaurant upkeep and meet customer expectations. New CEO Julie Felss Masino launched a May 2024 transformation plan citing declining relevance and proposing menu updates, more efficient kitchens, and 25–30 remodels in fiscal 2025, though customer response to the modernized design was mixed.
