Checking In | Myse

"Back in 2019, we had an incredible meal at a little restaurant in the centre of York called Le Cochon Aveugle, run by Victoria and Josh Overington As with many restaurant owners, Covid ushered in big changes, and when they found an old pub for sale in the pretty village of Hovingham, about 40 minutes outside York, they jumped at the chance, and sold up everything to make the move."
"The surrounding countryside is a stunner - we arrived about 4pm and took a two-hour walk through the woods and farmland just as the sun was going down in a spectacular pink sunset. There were cows (lots of them), apple and quince trees (we may have eaten a few), and beautiful autumnal trees, dappled every shade of brown and red going."
Victoria and Josh Overington left York after Covid to buy an old pub in Hovingham and opened Mýse in 2023 with six rooms. The restaurant earned a Michelin star a year later. Hovingham is a small village surrounded by striking countryside suited to two-hour walks through woods, farmland, apple and quince trees and autumnal colours; the Hovingham and Howardian Hills Circular on All Trails is recommended. Mýse offers around 16 covers with a communal 7pm sitting. Guests can enjoy pre-dinner drinks by the fire, snacks such as a summer field cheese biscuit with pontack ketchup and house-made pork shoulder and whisky sausage, and a tasting menu priced at £165 per person.
