Southern California changed the way people eat hamburgers, hot dogs and tacos after World War II. The rise of car culture in the 1940s and 1950s produced numerous quick-service concepts and drive-ins that became national brands. McDonald's emerged from a 1940 San Bernardino drive-in remodeled in 1948; Carl's Jr. traces back to a 1941 Los Angeles hot dog stand. In the late 1940s and 1950s, Original Tommy's, In-N-Out (1948), and Jack in the Box (1951) were founded. The 1960s brought Del Taco and Taco Bell, and later decades added El Pollo Loco, Farmer Boys and Panda Express.
