Tom Cruise scrapped a planned space movie because the project would require NASA coordination and federal permission, and he did not want to ask President Trump for a favor. Cruise had planned to reunite with director Doug Liman and pitched the film to Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley over Zoom during the pandemic. The story largely takes place on Earth but requires a trip to space, and Cruise wanted to travel to the International Space Station for filming.
