Nick Gordon, a Santa Cruz native, transitioned from being a passionate moviegoer to a successful film producer. His indie company Brookstreet Pictures is currently enjoying the success of 'The Brutalist,' a film lauded for its story about a Holocaust survivor now nominated for major awards, including ten Academy Awards. Gordon, who grew up with a rich cinematic upbringing thanks to his father's influence, reflects on his early experiences in Santa Cruz, which shaped his love for film and his career.
Santa Cruz is a good film town. I used to go see movies with my dad at the Nickelodeon, at the Del Mar, the Rio on the east side all throughout my childhood.
It feels pretty surreal. It doesn't come around every day, that's for sure.
It was certainly one of my favorite things to do as a kid.
The Brutalist has received widespread critical acclaim, winning five awards at the Venice International Film Festival and is currently up for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
