"I was probably successful because I had so much anxiety. They go hand in hand,"
"I had pressured myself to extreme levels to show up at work in a perfect way. We all now know - perfect is not attainable. It's not sustainable. I stressed myself out in service of my job, and it got me really, really far. I'm rewarded for my anxiety and perfectionism,"
"I mean, I've had an abundance of good fortune, great work opportunities, and worked with some of the greatest people on Earth,"
Reese Witherspoon attributes much of her professional success to intense self-imposed pressure, anxiety, and perfectionism that drove her to perform at high levels. She pressured herself to extreme standards to appear flawless at work, acknowledging that perfection is unattainable and unsustainable, yet that stress helped her advance. As she ages, she is learning to slow down and be content with accomplishments. Witherspoon began acting young with a major role in The Man in the Moon (1991), transitioned into producing with projects like Gone Girl and Wild, founded Hello Sunshine in 2016, and has produced and starred in The Morning Show since 2019. Despite box-office success, some industry figures still doubted her abilities.
