Police search for answers after Gene Hackman and wife found dead at home
Briefly

Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their Santa Fe home under puzzling circumstances. An open door led investigators to discover their bodies and that of a dog, while other dogs were found alive. Though there were no signs of struggle or foul play, the sheriff's office sought a search warrant due to the scene's strangeness. Authorities are working to determine when the couple was last seen, as they had reportedly been deceased for a while. Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 65, raised several questions regarding their sudden deaths.
Authorities were contacted after a worker performing pest control came across their open door but was unable to get in touch with the couple and dispatched security in the area to check on them.
Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated, 'There was no indication of anything that was missing from the home or disturbed...there was no signs of foul play,' despite the strange circumstances.
The scene was strange enough that the sheriff's office sought a search warrant on Wednesday evening, indicating the need for a thorough investigation.
Hackman, 95, appeared to have fallen in an entryway, a deputy said, suggesting a sudden health emergency or accident might have occurred.
