The fundraiser, believed to have been created by his management, raised more than $100,000 before being frozen a week after launch. Rourke said he would not accept charity and used profane language to call the appeal a fraud and an embarrassment. He reported that longtime friends offered accommodation and financial aid, expressed anger and humiliation, and said his lawyer is attempting to reimburse donors but has so far returned only 10% of the funds.
