Barcelona Jewish Film Festival October 3-30, 2024, Barcelona Barcelona's Festival Cinema Jueu is dedicated exclusively to celebrating the artistry and creativity of Jewish culture, which is itself inextricably bound to the city and to Spain. Each year the festival delivers a diverse series of cinematic and artistic projects exploring a variety of genres and topics in great depth: from documentaries and feature films to independent shorts and audiovisual pieces.
Noé Debré's feature-length directorial debut (France, 2023) a French comedy-drama about two Jews who are the last ones living in their neighborhood, and eerily seems almost to have predicted the rise in antisemitism in the wake of the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas; and James Schamus' directorial debut (USA, 2016), takes place in 1951, telling the story of a working-class Jewish student from New Jersey who attends a small, very Christian Ohio college where he struggles with sexual repression, his religious heritage and the ongoing Korean War.
