Mark Bedard is set to play three characters in the comedy 'Ripcord' at Rogue Theater Company. He finds joy in rapid role changes and believes playing multiple roles is more enjoyable. The play revolves around a bet between two women in a senior living facility. Bedard's character, Derek, is the son-in-law of one of the women, struggling to maintain peace. He relates to Derek's risk-averse nature and commitment to family. Bedard appreciates the script for its humor, which aids in balancing comedy and emotional truth.
Actually, I quite enjoy it. In fact, anytime I'm only playing one role in a show, I feel like I'm living on Easy Street.
The play centers on a bet between Abby, a grouchy woman who wants to keep her room to herself, and Marilyn, a more optimistic woman who wants to switch beds.
I relate to being risk-averse, but also to being fully there for your family. It puts him in a painful box - one that'll be fun for me to play.
I find the writing of the play to be pretty darn funny.
