Lizzy Caplan reflected on the scrapped 'Gambit' movie she was set to co-star in alongside Channing Tatum, which initially promised a unique 1930s screwball comedy vibe in a superhero context. The film was ultimately shelved following Disney's merger with Fox. Caplan expressed surprise over its cancellation, noting that such projects rarely get discarded. She confirmed her involvement included signing on and multiple meetings with Tatum and other team members as they approached a production timeline. Tatum's attempts to revive the character of Gambit have faced numerous challenges over the years.
"It was a really cool idea," Caplan told Business Insider in the latest installment of our Role Play interview series. "It's kind of odd that it got scrapped. Those movies don't seem to ever get scrapped, but it did."
Caplan told BI that not only did she sign on for the movie, but she also attended meetings with Tatum and others involved in the project. "We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it," Caplan recalled.
