"Set the titular time after the virus that decimated England, Boyle shot his film on iPhones, included more prosthetic penises than seems reasonable, and even embedded a Brexit commentary in his action flick. At its core, it's a traditional coming-of-age action narrative about a young man who discovers that not only is the world unsafe but that adults in it will betray you, but it's also just a visually stunning piece of work, a movie that looks like nothing else that played in a multiplex this year."
"There aren't a lot of filmmakers would even attempt something this bizarre, much less get Sony to put up $60 million for it. Set the titular time after the virus that decimated England, Boyle shot his film on iPhones, included more prosthetic penises than seems reasonable, and even embedded a Brexit commentary in his action flick. The Sony Blu-ray quality is fantastic, showing off Anthony Dod Mantle's unforgettable cinematography, but the special features are a little slight."
Danny Boyle directed 28 Years Later, a long-delayed sequel set 28 years after the virus that ravaged England. Boyle filmed much of the movie on iPhones, used extensive prosthetic effects, and wove a Brexit commentary into a coming-of-age action story about a young man confronting an unsafe world and adult betrayal. Anthony Dod Mantle's cinematography gives the film a striking, unique look that stands out among multiplex releases. Sony's Blu-ray presents excellent picture quality but includes only modest special features. Arrow Home Video released Creepshow 2, a troubled sequel reduced from five planned stories to three by budget cuts, with "The Raft" remaining a notable segment.
