Having applied for asylum in Germany post-exile, Rasoulof chose the country for its connection to editing his film with professionals like Andrew Bird.
Despite winning the Golden Bear in 2020 for "There is No Evil," Rasoulof could not attend the festival due to his ongoing legal issues.
