Duncan began his career in the late '60s in New York's off-Broadway scene and has held various artistic roles, including directing youth theater programs. Dunye, a prominent filmmaker known for The Watermelon Woman, has directed episodes of popular series and emphasizes her connection to Oakland, a significant cultural hub. The Rainin Foundation's fellowship aims to support Bay Area artists and address financial challenges in the arts community.
