David Kaff, aka Spinal Tap Keyboardist Viv Savage, Dead at 79
Briefly

David Kaff, known for playing Viv Savage in This Is Spinal Tap, has passed away at the age of 79 on July 11th. He was noted for his humorous quotes in the film, including his famous life motto, "Have a good time... all the time." Before his role in Spinal Tap, Kaff had success with the band Rare Bird in the 1970s, where their song "Sympathy" topped charts in Italy and France. His last performance with Spinal Tap was on Saturday Night Live in 1984.
Kaff's role as Savage was limited in This Is Spinal Tap, where he joked about the "magic" of video games and said he was capable of playing Nigel's bassline in "Big Bottom" because "I have two hands."
His final appearance with the band came during their 1984 appearance on Saturday Night Live. In the mythos of Spinal Tap, Viv Savage was said to have died when visiting the grave of drummer Mick Shrimpton - who had exploded onstage.
