""I can't even recommend it anymore," Hoover said of her book. "I'm almost embarrassed to say I wrote it. When people ask what I do, I'm just like, 'I'm a writer. Please don't ask me what I wrote.'""

Colleen Hoover spoke about how the legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni overshadowed the It Ends With Us movie adaptation. She stated she felt unable to recommend the book and felt embarrassed by its association with the controversy. Hoover received an executive producer credit and filmed a brief cameo, and she said she was completely unaware of the conflict while production took place. In December 2024 Lively sued Baldoni alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, and attempts to smear her, triggering multiple related lawsuits. A judge dismissed Baldoni's $400 million countersuit in mid-2025 and later formally ended it after an amendment deadline passed, while Lively's original suit remains ongoing. Hoover said the dispute also affected the mother whose domestic-violence experience inspired the story.
