Despite being an established IP with a dedicated fanbase and a star-studded cast, including Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart, the Borderlands movie came up short at the box office, failing to meet expectations.
Randy Pitchford, head of Borderlands developer Gearbox, noted that the movie's performance doesn't impact the game franchise. The financial risk lies with the movie studio, Lionsgate.
