Distribution is no longer what it was. Allen mentioned his Oscar-winning film Annie Hall played for a year in cinemas in 1977; now it's just two weeks. The whole business has changed.
In 2022, he told Alec Baldwin that a lot of the thrill is gone from film-making due to changing cinema distribution. Allen has faced retirement rumors before.
