Bobby Caldwell, one of the best, and most unheralded, singers of his day, passed away on March 14 at the age of 71, following a long illness.Caldwell was something of a hybrid, a purveyor of soul who could just as easily wrap his silky voice around classic American songbook tunes. He also wrote music and did so eclectically: he penned jingles, as well as the Peter Cetera-Amy Grant duet "The Next Time I Fall in Love," which reached Number One in 1986, and even the theme song for The New Mickey Mouse Club.
