Donatella Versace, who has led Versace for nearly 30 years since her brother Gianni's death, is stepping down as chief creative officer and becoming chief brand ambassador. This transition is part of a succession plan by Capri Holdings, which owns Versace, amidst talks of a potential sale of the brand. Dario Vitale from Miu Miu has been appointed as the new designer. Versace, aged 69, expressed her honor in continuing Gianni's legacy, despite having no formal training in fashion at the outset.
Ms. Versace, 69, has long been the embodiment and the guiding spirit of Versace, but she was never supposed to be its designer. She assumed that role after her brother was shot on the steps of his Miami mansion.
John D. Idol, the chief executive officer of Capri Holdings... called the decision part of a thoughtful succession plan.
It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni's legacy, Ms. Versace said in the news release.
Dario Vitale, who will replace Donatella Versace... has been named the new designer.
