Kamakshi Rathore and her husband have lived in their two-bedroom rented apartment in Hyderabad for four years. She left her corporate job to focus on her textile business, Deodar, which promotes indigenous crafts. The couple transformed their basic apartment into a vibrant home that reflects earthy aesthetics infused with Indian culture. Despite being unable to make structural changes, they utilized the apartment's natural light and white walls as a canvas, incorporating Indian prints, vintage art, and custom-made furniture to create a cozy, stylish living space that showcases both tradition and modern design.
This was a typical builder-grade apartment in an Indian metropolitan city, Hyderabad, when we moved in. Though structural changes aren't permitted as we do not own the property, but the white walls gave me the perfect blank canvas to style it my way with all my furniture and collectibles from the past years.
Our design style reflects Indian prints and patterns like block prints from Jaipur mixed with tarnished brass accents passed by my mum, vintage art thrifted during our travels, lots and lots of plants, and solid wood furniture custom-made slowly one by one over a decade.
