I Love My Gray Hair Streak, but I Don't Like What It May Say About Me. One MAGA Figure Is to Blame.
Briefly

A gray streak appeared before turning 40 and became a point of pride. Efforts were made to showcase it, especially during the pandemic. At 50, the gray hair spread, losing its earlier vibrancy and prompting a conversation with a hairstylist for a new color. The request focused on notable styles and was clearly understood by the experienced stylist, marking a shift in the relationship with gray hair.
As the gray grew in rapidly in my early 40s, my 'Mallen streak' looked like an intentional contrast: I once was stopped by a young man in his 20s asking me who did my color.
I felt like a young(er) woman with surprising gray hair. I am not great at taking compliments, but I would always take them for my streak.
Now, at 50, the gray has spread beyond the streak, and my hair is looking more washed out and dull than it used to.
I told him what I wanted: the Sontag. Or, the Steinem... The request translated perfectly to Shaun.
