Donatella Versace hails brother as she bows out as creative director
Briefly

Donatella Versace, after 27 years as the creative director of Versace, will step down on March 31, transitioning to the role of chief brand ambassador. She expressed her profound honor in carrying on her brother Gianni’s legacy, highlighting the influence he had on her life. Dario Vitale will take over as the new creative director. Despite leaving her directorial role, Donatella affirmed her enduring passion for the brand, stating it remains in her DNA. Her tenure has been characterized by challenges following Gianni's tragic death, yet her leadership has shaped the brand significantly.
It has been the greatest honour of my life to carry on my brother Gianni's legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity.
I will remain Versace's most passionate supporter. Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart.
For the first five years, I was lost. I made a lot of mistakes. I would tell myself—don't try to be Gianni!
From April, Dario Vitale, 41, will be Versace's creative director, marking a significant change for the brand after almost 50 years.
