This Working Life: 'I never planned to move to Ireland - now I have a thriving business here'
Briefly

Tanya Khamis, the founder of Tanya's Kitchen, reflects on her journey of opening a bakery amidst unexpected challenges during her pregnancy that led to an extended stay in Dublin. Initially, she baked from her home before establishing a physical location in 2021, emphasizing the strong bond she has built with her customers. She describes the bakery as a community-centric venture where customers feel connected, protective, and loyal, even during tough times, showcasing the impact of a personal touch in business.
It's a happy bakery, but its set up and how I got into baking came from times of difficulty. When I started, I was baking in my kitchen for months before we got our premises in 2021 and customers were picking up from my house.
They feel they know me. They see us as people. There can be highs but sometimes lows, and if we ever get negative comments online, they are very protective. They have stuck with me. It is a community business.
