Banana pudding also makes a slightly earlier appearance in colonial explorer Henry Morton Stanley's accounts of his murderous travels in Central Africa, but it seems pretty unlikely it was the same dish.
This dish does require some advance preparation, not only to give it a chance to set, but also to ensure the bananas are ripe enough to make their presence known.
