Careme' Serves Up Satisfaction in the Kitchen and the Bedroom
Briefly

'Careme,' the new Apple TV+ show, combines elements from popular series like 'The Bear' and 'Bridgerton' to explore the life of culinary pioneer Marie-Antoine Careme. Born into poverty in late-18th century Paris, Careme became a celebrated chef for figures such as Napoleon and the Rothschilds. Directed by Martin Bourboulon, the show introduces modern twists, including contemporary costumes and language, while maintaining historical roots. The narrative draws parallels between culinary art and sensuality, highlighting Careme's meticulous attention to pleasure in both realms.
"To convey how innovative Careme was, our vision was to avoid a usual period drama style," said Martin Bourboulon, the show's director.
"The costumes nod to 20th-century and contemporary fashions, and had to be made from scratch rather than rented, as is typical on a production of this scale."
"I found similarities between the sex scenes and the food scenes, Bourboulon said, especially when it came to the care Careme takes giving pleasure in both contexts."
