Volkswagen is set to release new affordable electric hatchbacks: one priced at €25,000 scheduled for next year and another at €20,000 in 2027, which will utilize Rivian software. However, these models will not be sold in the U.S., where the market for smaller vehicles has dwindled significantly. The prices of new cars are rising due to limited options and tariffs. Smaller EVs are becoming essential due to battery costs, and they also provide operational savings. VW aims to return to its roots with simple, affordable designs catering to practical European consumers.
The ID EVERY1, VW's new €20,000 car, was designed to cost as little as possible to make. "The car is super minimalistic-we have no decoration," says Lorenzo Oujeili.
For Volkswagen, it's a return to the company's roots of making simple, affordable cars. The ID 2all, VW's hatchback set for release in 2026, is designed as a commuter vehicle.
