TikTok is set to lay off around 300 employees in its Dublin office, representing 10% of its workforce in Ireland. Minister Peter Burke confirmed the redundancies will occur in April following a notification of collective redundancies. The cuts come as part of a global restructuring effort, impacting primarily the trust and safety divisions. The Irish government has been informed and is working with TikTok to provide support for affected employees, including potential new roles and training resources.
On March 4th 2023, my department received a notification of collective redundancies from TikTok (Bytedance) following a February announcement by the company that it would be undergoing global restructuring.
Affected employees were informed of the decision and a consultation period is now underway. I understand that the proposed redundancies will take effect in April this year, once the statutory consultation process has concluded.
The numbers involved are a matter for the company to disclose.
Government understands that there may be a number of open roles available to employees who are at risk of being made redundant.
