SpaceX is on the verge of releasing a new Starlink dish capable of gigabit speeds, significantly enhancing its current service. During a recent webinar, President Gwynne Shotwell discussed plans for a next-generation dish that could provide speeds up to 2 gigabits. This advancement places SpaceX ahead of the European Union, which is still working to develop comparable internet services. The Polish Foreign Minister has criticized Elon Musk over Ukraine's reliance on Starlink, but Musk clarified he would not terminate those services. The EU currently lacks the capability to match SpaceX's satellite constellation size and coverage.
"Next generation, we'll have smaller beams, more capacity per beam, lower latency," notable SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell in 2024.
Despite Musk's statement, the EU is considering alternatives to SpaceX's Starlink. It will be difficult, given that the EU currently has no companies that can match SpaceX's Starlink constellation.
